There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when a woman decides it’s finally her time to be photographed.
Recently, we had the privilege of creating that magic for a mother in her 60s (someone who had never had professional hair and makeup done before) and her adult daughter who joined her for part of the session.

This was our second motherhood session inside Aloft Studio Portraits, and it set the tone for exactly what we want this space to be: a place where women get to see themselves clearly, beautifully, and without hurry.

Stepping Into a New Experience

For this mother, professional glam wasn’t something she grew up with. Back when she got married, hair and makeup services weren’t common or accessible the way they are now. So when she walked into the studio that morning, she was trying something completely new.

And that’s exactly why the day felt so special.

She and her daughter sat side by side, watching each other transform with soft curls, glowing skin, subtle glam that felt elevated but still true to who they are. Their reactions during each reveal were pure joy. A little giggle here, a “wow, look at you!” there. Exactly the kind of moments you can’t script.

One of my favorite parts of photographing mothers and daughters is watching them slip into that familiar rhythm of helping each other zip dresses, holding up colors, passing along little compliments that mean everything.
